WebsitesVancouver play-based schoolsSome parents may wonder what their options are for play-based schools in the Vancouver region.
Core Education and Fine Arts (CEFA) CEFA is a junior kindergarten that was created here in Vancouver. Its focus is centred around a play based curriculum which works with children 1 to 4 years of age. There are 14 locations across the lower mainland which make this program easily accessible for all children. The curriculum teaches children academic subjects such as math and reading but does this by also incorporating fine arts, including drama and yoga, which allows the children to learn and grow through play activities. This program bases its teaching methods on a combination of the Montessori approach with the Reggio Emilia approach. The article is titled "Let the children play: Nature's answer to early learning" by the Early Childhood Learning Centre. The article discusses the physical and social environments in which Canadian children develop and have changed over the last couple decades. This includes the statistics showing that it is increasingly rare for children to have long uninterrupted blocks of time to play indoors and outdoors.
